Back Home at Carolina

Larry NicholsLarry Nichols' family has lived in South Carolina's Saluda County since 1740, but Nichols has made his home in Statesville, N.C., for the past 40 years. Now Nichols, a 1965 graduate of the University of South Carolina business school, has retired from his insurance and financial investment firm and moved back to the Palmetto State.

"It's good to know you can always come back home to Carolina," he says. "The Horseshoe is absolutely my favorite place."

Nichols has served as chairman of the Carolina Guardian Society since 2017 and is taking advantage of his new proximity to campus to devote even more time to the Guard-ian Society and its hundreds of members.

"I'm planning to call a lot of Guardian Society donors, and I'm also making videos to stay in touch with those who have made deferred gifts to the university," Nichols says. "I'm looking forward to seeing everyone in person again soon, but for now, we'll stay in contact in a way that keeps everyone safe."

Nichols has finalized his own plans for an estate gift to the university, with portions supporting the athletics department, the Moore School of Business, the Division of Student Affairs and the university's Alumni Association.
