A Legacy of Leadership

Robin and David SteeleRobin (B.A., ’86) and David Steele live in Howard County, Maryland, where they are actively involved in community service and philanthropic work. A Virginia native, Robin attended the University of South Carolina to be near her father, Albert Nelson, who lives in Charleston. During her time here, she made the most of her college experience by participating in student government and other campus organizations. Her involvement in these extracurriculars instilled in her leadership skills that she was able to take into her career, which she started just one week a  er graduation. After reaching a milestone in her life eight years ago, she wanted current and future students to have the same experiences she had while on campus. She and fellow alumna Muriel Crosby Powell gave their first gift to celebrate USC’s impact on their lives. Robin is thankful for the lifelong friendships she made, loves rooting on the Gamecocks at sporting events and, most importantly, wants to leave a legacy at the place that helped shape her. To instill this legacy, she recently became a member of the Guardian Society. “You don’t need to be a billionaire to give back,” Robin says. “I live by the motto: ‘To the world you might be one person, but to one person, you might be the world.’”
